Examples of Modern Evolution

Goose Bumps:

Humans aren’t affected by goose bumps anymore.  In the past, humans got goose bumps when they needed to scare away enemies.  The raising of the skin caused hair to stick up and humans to appear larger.  Natural selection caused our thick hair to go away but left goose bumps behind.

Wisdom Teeth:

Early humans had an extra set of molars to make the larger mouth more productive for eating plants.  As our diets changed, our jaws grew smaller and our third molars became unnecessary.  Today, some humans don’t grow molars but some do.

Appendix:

Today, the appendix has no use.  It is thought that the appendix once helped process the cellulose in the leaf-rich diet of early humans.  The diets of humans have changed and now our appendix does nothing.
